How is it the end of January already? I feel like when you’re so busy, it doesn’t even feel like there are 24 hours in a day. Some days, I truly can’t be bothered to cook another full on meal and thats where quick, easy and hands off recipes come in. I did a little poll on what kinds of recipes you want to see this year and the top 5 categories were:
quick and easy recipes
rice cooker recipes
Japanese recipes that are lesser known
meal prep recipes
Japanese bakery recipes
Thats what we’re focusing on this year. I have tons of recipes in store and so excited to share!! They’re be a mix of traditional Japanese recipes but also with modern takes using equipment like the rice cooker, air fryer, instant pot and my #1 used appliance: the microwave. I’ve been really hesitant to share microwave recipes because I used to get a lot of backlash that think the microwave is the devil but it’s been backed up that the microwave is safe to use when done correctly. I may or may not keep the microwave just for substack though because often, they’re so easy that I’m like, do I need a full on video tutorial for this? 🤣
Anyways, I hope you’re all back into the swing of things post holiday! Here are a few new recipes on the blog that are easy and a go-to year around:
Gyudon (Japanese Beef Bowls): Takes under 15 minutes and leftovers are even better.
Rice Cooker Oyakodon: Traditional oyakodon is quick and easy to make but this just offers a more hands-free approach and can make multiple portions at once!
Rice Cooker Toriniku Daikon: This dish is so heart and comforting. Simmered chicken and melt-in-your mouth daikon with a press of a button. The soft boiled egg is extra but I love the creamy texture paired with it.
Tonpeiyaki: Pork and cabbage omelette. I’m not even joking when I say I’ve had this everyday this month. Breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a late night snack. It’s high in protein and you get in so much cabbage!! And it’s one of the cheapest veg right now.
Okonomiyaki Sauce: I ran out of okonomiyaki sauce which is why I posted this recipe incase this happens to anyone else LOL. It’s easier to find Bulldog Worcester sauce than okonomiyaki sauce and the result is pretty similar!
Hope this gives you some recipe inspo for this week! HAVE THE BEST WEEK EVER.
xoxo lisa
